On our most recent radio broadcast, we delved into the numerous potential benefits that ETFs can offer investors over traditional mutual funds – and in particular, actively managed mutual funds.  As ETFs continue to soar in popularity, the mainstream financial media is ramping up their ETF coverage in response and touting these potential benefits – things such as lower cost, greater tax efficiency, more transparency, and access to a wider variety of asset classes.  On the show, we played several recent CNBC clips that really highlight the growing investor interest in ETFs and in our belief, point to a fundamental shift from mutual funds to ETFs that is currently taking place.  If you’re new to ETFs, we certainly recommend taking a look at CNBC’s introductory piece on ETFs and perusing our free report “The ETF Advantage”.  We also discussed some recent comments from a well-known player in the investment management industry who believes ETFs may displace mutual funds over the next 15 years.

In our weekly market update, we zeroed in on gold, offering some thoughts on what’s causing the recent price drop in gold and what role we think gold should play in your portfolio moving forward.  We also explained why an ETF such as the iShares Gold Trust (ticker IAU) or the SPDR Gold Shares (ticker GLD) might be a better way to invest than by holding physical gold.  Finally, in our weekly ETF spotlight segment, we examined the Vanguard Small Cap Value ETF (ticker VBR) and explained why ignoring small cap stocks in your equity exposure could be a mistake.
