With Kansas City’s landmark Union Station as the backdrop and Mayor Sly James in attendance, The ETF Store’s Nate Geraci discussed the economics of baseball with Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig during a luncheon hosted by the Missouri Council on Economic Education prior to the 2012 MLB All-Star Game. Among the topics discussed during the hour-long question and answer session were revenue sharing, payroll disparities among large and small market teams, and the future competitive balance of Major League Baseball.
Following the conversation with Commissioner Selig, Geraci conducted a roundtable discussion with Sports Radio 810 WHB’s Nate Bukaty, Host of the Border Patrol. Bukaty, who also does pre and post-game coverage for the Kansas City Royals on Fox Sports Net Kansas City, provided his insight into Selig’s comments, how to improve the competitive balance of the game, and the future of the Royals organization given the current economics of baseball.
